At six this morning we started the diesel engine and powered north towards Sigacik. It was a long drive, over ten hours through calm seas. We each took turns at the wheel, and played backgammon in between. It was a relaxing day, spent on the deck in the sun, watching the waves break in front of the Virazon's hull.

We arrived at Sigacik at around 5pm. It is a small coastal town, populated by fishermen. The marina has grown over the years, and now there are a few restaurants and cafes that cater to the yachts moored in the harbor.

We picked up the film crew from Focus TV in Germany. They will be with us for the next few days, filming our efforts at a 5th century BC wreck west of Sigacik. George F. Bass, the president of the Institute of Nautical Archaeology, wants to excavate the site next summer. We will do some preliminary documentation to help the archaeologists plan the excavation. These relaxing days have been pleasant, but the dive tomorrow has been on our minds all day. Listening to Tufan and Berta describe the site has made us anxious to get to work.
